Esteem Therapy, LLC

What is Telehealth?

Have you put off therapy and getting the help you need because it is difficult to make it to an in-person therapy session?
Do you have a busy schedule, have responsibilities requiring you to be at home or have limited mobility?

Do you live in a remote area with limited or no access to qualified professionals who specialize in your areas of concern?
Do you want the flexibility of being in therapy from home?

Telehealth might be a perfect fit for you.

Telehealth online therapy is an excellent option for anyone who is unable to access treatment due to location, health or mobility issues or transportation limitations. This is an excellent alternative for individuals who do not wish to meet in an office setting.

Is Telehealth Private?

Telehealth therapy sessions are much like in-person sessions. Appointments are scheduled and rather than traveling to an office you conveniently hop onto your cell phone, iPad, notebook, laptop or desktop computer via a HIPPA compliant secure link gaining you access to the video call. Federal laws require that online therapy sessions maintain privacy guidelines outlined by HIPAA. The same laws that apply to in-person counseling also apply to online counseling.
To maintain your privacy as a client, here are some recommendations:

  • Ensure that you are in a private location.
  • Use headphones if others are around.
  • Ask to not be interrupted if others are around.
  • Ask others to stay in another area, turn on entertainment in another room, and/or listen to something over headphones.

Successful Telehealth Sessions

  • Clients are finding virtual sessions to be highly effective and convenient.
  • If you are anxious about how to use technology, I will work to make it as easy as possible. I have chosen a platform that is simple to use. I am always happy to assist you with any questions or concerns. If you can click on links and complete online forms, you’re good to go!
  • If you struggle to find a quiet or private space for your online sessions, you can get creative. Given that video sessions can be conducted on your smartphone, clients have found it helpful to go to a park, sit in their car in the driveway, and/or walk around your neighborhood.
  • I will conduct sessions in a quiet and confidential space.

When Telehealth May Not Be Appropriate

Despite the benefits of utilizing online therapy, there are certain situations when it may not be appropriate. These include:

  • Complex mental health diagnoses (i.e., visual and/or auditory hallucinations, active substance use, recent suicidal or homicidal thoughts).
  • Those with poor internet connection.
  • Those who will not be able to have privacy.
